Summary of Today’s News

Jharkhand Competitive Examination (Measure for Control and Prevention of Unfair Means in Recruitment) Bill, 2023

  • Bill having provision of life imprisonment, for cheating in exams
  • Which mandates a strict provision of life imprisonment
  • Fine up to ₹10 crore, in case of cheating in competitive examinations

According to the Bill,

  • if a printing press,
    • the management system that conducts an examination,
    • the person engaged in transport, or
    • coaching institutes play the role of conspirator
  • Then the punishment can range from 10 years to life imprisonment.
  • There is also a provision to impose a fine ranging from ₹2 crore to ₹10 crore.
  • Failure to pay the penalty will result in an additional three years of prison sentence.

Broadcast regulation 3.0, commissions and omissions 

  • The Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act of 1995, was the law to govern broadcasting till now,
  • It faces challenges due to technological advancements and the emergence of new platforms for example DTH, OTT etc.
  • Not the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in India has proposed theBroadcasting Services (Regulation) Bill, 2023,
    • To address the need for a comprehensive law to streamline the regulatory framework in the digitized broadcasting sector.

Centre agrees to examine demands for Ladakh safeguards

  • Civil society organisations have been demanding Ladakh’s inclusion in the Sixth Scheduleof the Constitution and granting tribal status to the Union Territory.
    • An expert committee with 22­ member , will study these demands in detail and will recommend accordingly
    • Chaired by Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai, will have representatives from both Kargil and Leh divisions.
