On April 6, 1930, Gandhiji broke the salt laws of British India at Dandi in Navsari District in Gujarat. Dandi March was a twenty-four-day march led by Gandhiji to oppose the British salt monopoly. It led to the commencement of the Civil Disobedience Movement in India, which ended in 1934.
The Coastal Aquaculture Authority (Amendment) Bill, 2023.
The Union Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying introduced the Coastal Aquaculture Authority (Amendment) Bill, 2023, to decriminalise certain offences in the Coastal Aquaculture Authority Act, 2005, to promote ease of doing business. It aims to promote environment-friendly aquaculture by prohibiting the use of antibiotics and pharmacologically active substances harmful to human health and coastal aquaculture.
India gets elected to the U.N. Statistical Commission.
The United Nations Economic and Social Council elected India as the U.N. Statistical Commission (SatCom) member from the Asia-Pacific Region along with South Korea. The U.N. Statistical Commission was established in 1947 to oversee the work of the United Nations Statistics Division. It is headquartered at New York, USA. Shigeru Kawasaki is the incumbent Chairperson of the Commission.
Unseasonal rain declared as a natural calamity in Maharashtra.
Maharashtra became the first State in India to declare unseasonal rain as a natural calamity to provide relief to the farmers affected by the unseasonal rains.
International Finance Corporation
The International Finance Corporation (IFC) is a private sector arm of the World Bank Group. It aims to improve the standard of living in developing countries by encouraging the growth of the private sector. It has recently announced not to support investments in new coal-related projects. IFC lends banks and financial institutions to invest in infrastructure and energy projects.
Global Environment Facility
The Global Environment Facility (GEF) was established in 1991 to provide grants and blended finance to support country-led sustainable development projects aimed at conservation of biodiversity, climate change, ecosystem restoration, etc. It is located in Washington D.C., the USA.
