Summary of Today’s News

Zero FIR
Zero FIR is an important legal provision introduced after the Nirbhaya gang rape 2012. It allows the registration of an FIR irrespective of the area of offense, preventing police from evading jurisdiction. The FIR is later transferred to the appropriate police station for investigation. This ensures a swift and uninterrupted investigation, eliminating delays and ensuring proper handling of cases. The objective is to deliver justice promptly and hold the police accountable for taking immediate action.

Dengue
Dengue is a viral disease caused by the Dengue Virus (DENV) and primarily transmitted through the bites of infected Aedes Aegypti mosquitoes. Common symptoms include high fever, headache, body aches, nausea, and rash. In severe cases, it can lead to dengue hemorrhagic fever, causing serious bleeding, shock, and even death. The disease is more prevalent in tropical and subtropical regions.

Akira Ransomware
The Akira Ransomware is a dangerous malware targeting Windows and Linux devices, encrypting data and appending the “.akira” extension to filenames. It deletes Windows Shadow Volume copies to prevent data restoration. The attackers extort victims by demanding a ransom, threatening to leak the data on a dark web blog. The ransomware spreads through malicious attachments in emails and insecure Remote Desktop connections.

El Nino
Peruvian fishermen first recognized El Nino as unusually warm coastal waters. The term “El Nino” was coined by Spanish immigrants. It now describes irregular and intense climate changes linked with the Southern Oscillation—a change in air pressure over the tropical Pacific Ocean. El Nino-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) occurs irregularly every two to seven years and is unpredictable. In India, the El Niño phenomenon is usually associated with impacting monsoons, leading to below-normal rainfall and severe droughts.
