IAF likely to induct Astra BVR air to air missile by year end
India has contracted Bharat Dynamics Ltd. (BDL) for its indigenous Astra Beyond Visual Range (BVR) air-to-air missile. The first batch is set to be inducted by the year’s end, and development of the more advanced Astra Mk 2 is in progress. BDL has received production clearance, and the Indian Air Force (IAF) plans competitive proof firing and induction this financial year. The Astra missile is integrated into IAF aircraft, and the IAF intends to make it a primary BVR missile, reducing import reliance.
