India files appeal against death penalty to 8 former Navy personnel in Qatar

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs announced that on November 7, the Indian Embassy in Qatar was granted consular access to the eight former Indian Navy personnel who are currently facing the death penalty in Qatar. The Ministry stated that India is considering taking “further legal steps” in the case.

Online gambling  ban won’t apply to  poker, rummy: HC

The Madras High Court has made a ruling regarding the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Online Gambling and Regulation of Online Games Act, 2022. The court did not strike down the Act entirely but instead ruled that it would apply only to games of chance, excluding games of skill like rummy and poker.

Ethics panel recommends disqualification of Moitra

The Lok Sabha Ethics Committee has adopted a report recommending the expulsion of Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra from the Lower House of Parliament due to a “cash-for-query” allegation. Six committee members, including suspended Congress MP Praneet Kaur, voted in favor of the report, while four Opposition MPs opposed it, claiming that the complaint by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey lacked supporting evidence.

Bihar House passes Bill raising ceiling on caste quota to 65%

The Bihar Assembly passed a significant bill unanimously, aimed at increasing reservation quotas for various social groups. Under this legislation, the reservation percentages were raised for different categories. Backward Classes (BC) will see an increase from 12% to 18%, while Extremely Backward Classes (EBC) will benefit from an increase from 18% to 25%. Scheduled Castes (SC) will see their reservation rise from 16% to 20%, and Scheduled Tribes (ST) will experience a doubling of their quota from 1% to 2%.
