Centre and Manipur signed deal with banned Meitei insurgent
- Meiteis are the largest community in Manipur, The Meitei people are also known as Manipuri people.
- Meitei –The Meiteis in Manipur opposed the merger agreement between the Manipuri king and the Indian government (1949).
- In 1964, the United National Liberation Front (UNLF), a meitei insurgent group, was formed, demanding secession from India.
- After that, numerous Meitei insurgent (valley insurgent) groups like the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) and the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) came into being.

Understanding rat-hole mining

- “Halal” is an Arabic term, means “permissible”
- Another term is “haram” (prohibited) in Islam
- A halal certificate means the product is fit to be consumed by Muslims
- This certificate is particularly relevant for meat items.
- It is considered essential while exporting meat to Muslim countries.
How are halal certificates issued?
- Halal certificates are given by
- the Jamiat Ulama E- Hind’s Halal Unit
- The Halal Shariat Islamic Law Board,
- both of whom have been cleared by the National Accreditation Board for Certification Bodies.
- While the Shariat Islamic Law Board enjoys permission for certifying various food products,
- The Jamiat’s unit can certify only meat.
- The ban was imposed only on sales, manufacture and storage within Uttar Pradesh and not meant for export products.
- Meanwhile, the retailers, whose business was thrown into a chaos due to the hastily imposed ban, revealed that hile many vegetarian food items carry Halal certificates when exported to Muslim countries, at times, the packages exceeded the number of export items.
Govt. paves way for 16th finance panel

- The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the terms of reference (ToR) for the Sixteenth Finance Commission, which will recommend the formula for sharing revenues between the Centre and the States for the five year period beginning on April 1, 2026.
