On 22nd March, 1912, a new province of Bihar and Orissa was carved out from the Bengal Province of the British India. Later, Bihar and Orissa were separated to form new provinces on 1st April, 1936.

IMF clears $3 billion bailout for Sri Lanka
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) cleared a $3 billion Extended Fund Facility (EEF) for Sri Lanka which aims to restore macroeconomic stability and financial stability in debt-ridden island country. It also aims to step up structural reforms to promote growth potential of Sri Lanka. In April, 2022, Sri Lanka had declared pre-emptive default of $51 billion on all its foreign debt to combat economic crisis.

World Water Day
The World Water Day is observed annually on 22nd March to generate global awareness to promote sustainable use and management of freshwater. The 2023 theme of the World Water Day focuses on accelerating change to solve water and sanitation crisis. The Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6 aims for “clean water and sanitation for all.”

Expert committee formed to suggest ways to bring Indian start-ups back home
The International Financial Services Authority (IFSCA) constituted an expert committee headed by the former Reserve Bank of India’s Executive Director G Padmanabhan to identify the concerns of externalized or flipped start-ups, and to formulate a roadmap to onshore them to the GIFT City in Gujarat. India has the world’s third largest start-up ecosystem with 115 unicorns. Unicorns are the start-ups or firms with billion-dollar valuations.

Rani Rampal first Indian woman sportsperson to have a stadium named after her.
Indian Hockey player, Ms. Rani Rampal, became the first woman in the sport to have a stadium named after her. The Modern Coach Factory, Rae Bareli, has renamed the hockey stadium as Rani’s Girl Hockey Turf. Rani Rampal was awarded the Padma Shri in 2020.

Anti-submarine INS Androth launched
INS Androth, built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers, is an Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft, whose primary role is to conduct anti-submarine operations in coastal waters, low maritime operations, and mine lying operations. It was launched in Kolkata.
