The Treaty of Copenhagen was concluded between Denmark-Norway and Sweden on 27th May 1660. The treaty ended the generation of warfare between the two countries and established the modern boundary of Denmark, Sweden, and Norway.

Summary of Today’s News

IMD retains its normal outlook for monsoon.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has kept its normal rainfall forecast from June to September 2023. At 96% of the Long Period Average (a 50-year mean) of 87 cm, at the lowest end of the ‘normal’ range. Due to the development of El Nino in the central Equatorial Pacific Ocean, the rainfall levels will be below the normal levels in western and northwest India.

Census
The next census is a mix of newer aspects and older conventions. It will be India’s first digital census, enabling citizens to participate in the census from home. It will include new categories in the disability section, such as acid attack, intellectual disability, blood disorder, and neurological disease. It will have new queries about travel time and Metro rail usage. It will retain six options for religions: Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Buddhist, Sikh, and Jain.

Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM)
Carbon leakage refers to cheaper, more carbon-intensive goods entering the European Union at the expense of domestically manufactured products that have been manufactured using costlier and renewable energy. Hence, the European Union has introduced the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), which requires EU companies to declare annually the number of goods imported into the European Union in the preceding year and effectively pay for excessive emissions through CBAM certificates.

Gaganyaan
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) released the Gaganyaan Recovery Training Module at the Water Survival Training Facility in INS Garuda, Kochi. Two uncrewed missions will follow the human flight of the Gaganyaan mission. These uncrewed missions will be launched in the last quarter of 2023, followed by the second crewed mission to be launched in the second quarter of 2024. The human space flight mission will be launched in the fourth quarter of 2024.
