During World War II, the Allied forces began the Normandy Invasion, popularly known as the D-Day Invasion or Operation Overlord, on June 6, 1944. It was the largest seaborne invasion in modern military history that aimed to liberate France and other Western European countries from Nazi occupation.

Kavach
Kavach is an automatic train protection system that prevents trains from passing the red stop signal by activating the automated braking system if the driver fails to control the train within the speed restrictions to avoid the collision of trains. It was indigenously developed by the Research Design and Standard Organisation (RDSO), and the trials were conducted on March 4, 2022, between Gallaguda and Chitgidda stations of the South-Central Railway.
NIRF
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras topped the National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF) in the ‘best educational institution’ and ‘best engineering college’ categories. The Union Ministry of Education announced the India Rankings 2023 of higher educational institutions under NIRF. The five broad categories of parameters identified in the NIRF are teaching, learning and resources, research and professional practice, graduation outcome, outreach and inclusivity, and perception.
Railways to secure signaling equipment with double locks.
The Indian Railways has decided to secure the goomties that house signaling equipment on railway station premises with a double-lock arrangement. A goomty is a small cabin at level crossings or near stations where railway equipment is kept. The instructions came when a signaling failure was suspected to be the reason behind the Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express entering the loop line. At the same time, its signal was cleared for passage on the main line at the Bahanaga Bazaar station in Balasore district of Odisha.
India, U.S. finalised roadmap for defence industrial production.
India and the United States concluded a roadmap for ‘Defence Industrial Cooperation’ to guide the policy direction for cooperation in high technology areas and identify opportunities for co-development and cooperation. It was concluded during the bilateral meeting between Defence Minister Sri Rajnath Singh and the U.S. Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin. India-U.S. partnership is critical for ensuring a free, open, rule-based Indo-Pacific Region.
