CLAT-exam-sample-paper

What are the benefits of practicing sample papers before taking the CLAT exam?

CLAT as an aptitude based exam is all about practice. The more you practice, the more you will learn and the greater will be your accuracy. Sample CLAT papers or mock tests can also be easily availed. One should also solve previous year question papers for a better understanding of the exam pattern and identify the commonly asked questions. However, simply practicing sample papers and mock tests does not serve any purpose unless you analyze every answer later, whether wrong or correct. This is the only way you will become aware about your weak and strong areas and would be able to work upon them.

Some of the benefits of regularly solving sample papers include:

1) Familiarizing yourself with the actual exam pattern: Regular practice of solving the complete paper in the specified time limit mimics the situation of actually writing the final CLAT exam. This way you will be well-acquainted with the types of questions asked, weightage of each section, etc.
2) Helps in covering the syllabus: If while solving a sample paper you come across a set of questions on topics which you have not prepared so far, you will be able to identify such topics and prepare for them accordingly. This will ensure that you don’t leave any topic for your preparation.
3) Time management: Solving mock tests on a regular basis will help you assess your time management skills and will help you gauge how much time you need to allocate to each section in order to complete the exam within the specified time.
4) Accuracy: Having a low accuracy can be a deal-breaker. The aim is to maintain accuracy while keeping a high speed. Accuracy can only be improved with regular practice. It will help you understand what kind of topics are your strengths and what kind of topics can be avoided during the exam, to maintain accuracy and minimize negative marking.
5) Builds confidence: Most of the sample papers and mock tests give you a break-down analysis of your performance and helps you assess yourself properly. Scoring well in these sample tests can really boost your morale and push you to perform even better. A low score would present an opportunity for you to analyze your mistakes and motivate you to be better prepared for the future.
6) Developing strategies: Everyone has a strategy of attempting the paper which suits them and optimizes maximum score. Some prefer to start with the toughest section and some might prefer to start with the easier section first. Solving mock tests provide you the platform to experiment with each strategy and find the strategy that best suits you
However, as said before, solving sample papers regularly would be futile if one does not know how to analyze their tests later. It is only through a good analysis that you will be able to identify your mistakes properly and correct them in a way that you never repeat them again.

Below are few essential tips on how you should analyze your mock tests:

1) Solve the mock again: Once you have given your mock test, and you have gone through the mistakes you made, solve the mock again. This time with the objective of minimizing those mistakes.
2) Focus more on incorrect questions: Go over the questions you got wrong. See what technique you used and why you chose the wrong answer. Look for a better explanation or opt for a different technique to increase your accuracy.
3) Unattempted questions: More often than not, there are many questions you could not attempt due to paucity of time. Solve those unattempted questions and see how much extra time you would require to attempt them so that you are more mindful about time management in future.
4) Identify weak and strong areas: Look at the graphs of your performance. See which sections fetched you the highest score and which section brought down your score. Focus on improving upon your weak areas and topics.
In conclusion, regular practice of solving mock tests, sample papers and previous year papers is an essential part of your preparation so you should incorporate these in your study schedule. This will help you not only conduct a self-assessment but is a great tool to track progress of your preparation.
