A) Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow – Babasaheb Bhimarao Ambedkar University is ranked 33rd in the NIRF ranking 2024, and is one of the prestigious universities in India. The Department of Law within the University was established and started only in year 2008-09 and since then the university is offering range of law programs including a five-year law course that is B.B.A.LL.B. (Hons.) Every year, the department takes a limited number of students to pursue five year law, and therefore, the intake is restricted to total number of 60 seats each year.
B) Central University of South Bihar – Central University of South Bihar is one of the sixteen new Central Universities established in India under the Central Universities Act, 2009 and is located at Panchanpur, Gaya, Bihar. The School of Law within the Central University of South Bihar is considered to be a pioneer of legal education. The university offers a standalone five year law course that is B.A.LL.B. (Hons). Every year, the university takes 132 students for the law course.
C) Central University of Kashmir – Located in the valley of Kashmir, Central University of Kashmir which was earlier known as Central University of Jammu and Kashmir was established only in the year 2009 through Central Universities Act, 2009. To promote legal studies, in 2011, the Department of Law was therefore established under the Central University of Kashmir under the guidance of Prof. S.M.A. Qadri. At present, the university offers a single five-year law course that is B.A.LL.B., and students are admitted into this university by CUET scores.
D) Central University of Punjab– Central university of Punjab was also established in the year 2009 under the Central Universities Act, 2009. The university which is one of the top 100 universities in India is situated at Ghudda village of Bhatinda, Punjab. The initial phase of law at the university started in 2011 with a centre named as Centre for Environment Law. Only in year 2015, the Centre was reworked and was then renamed as Centre for Law under the School of Legal Studies and Governance was established with an objective to impart qualitiative legal education offering specialization in Environmental Law, Human Rights and Corporate Law to keep pace with needs of society.
E) Samrat Vikramaditya Government Law College, Ujjain – The Samrat Vikramaditya Government Law College was established in the year 2014 and is under the aegis of Vikram university. The university is currently situated in Ujjain, and at present offers only 160 seats for a three-year law course that is LL.B. The university in the recent years have gained a lot of reputation with students securing merit for the College all across the country.
F) Department of Law, Himachal Pradesh University – Himachal Pradesh University’s roots were laid down as early as in year 1970, as a response to the needs and aspirations of the Union Territory, poised for full statehood in the Union of India on 25th January, 1971. The university is housed at Summer Hill, which is a suburb in Shimla. Spread in 241.11 bighas, the department of Law within the University also took its birth in the year 1970. Currently, the university does not offer a five-year law course but only offers a three year law-course with total number of 180 seats.
G) Karnataka State Law University – Based in Navanagar, Hubli, Karnataka and spread in 55 acres of land, the Karnataka State Law University was established in January, 2009 under Karnataka State Law University Act, 2009 of Government of Karnataka. It is the single largest affiliating Law University in the whole of Asia having 109 affiliated Law colleges spread over the entire State of Karnataka with the strength of 26,000 students. The university at present offers three five-year law course programme which are B.A.LL.B. (Hons.) and B.B.A.LL.B. (Hons.) and B.Com.LL.B. (Hons.).
H) University of Jammu – University of Jammu has its roots laid down in the year 1969 by an act of the state legislature which effectively split the Jammu and Kashmir University into the separate University of Jammu and University of Kashmir. The Law School within University of Jammu was established only in the year 2003 and currently, the university offers a five-year course namely, B.A.LL.B. Students willing to pursue B.A.LL.B. can apply to available 92 seats out of which 80 are merit based whereas 12 are Self-finance based. The college takes admission only through CUET and by no other means, the university can take admission.
I) Sikkim Government Law College, Burtuk – Sikkim Government. Law College was established in the year 1980 to facilitate to the rising needs of Legal Education for the students of Sikkim. Initially, the college was affiliated to the North Bengal University, however in the academic year 2008-09, it got associated to Sikkim University. The college at present offers a five-year B.A.LL.B. (Hons.) integrated course and has an intake of 60 students each year. The college also has a strong teacher-student ratio with 1:3.
J) Punjabi University, Patiala – The Punjabi University is a collegiate state public university located in Patiala, Punjab, and was established in the year 1962. It is one of the premier educational institutions in India, offering a wide range of academic programs, including law. The University at present has its own department of law which is known for its world-class education. The Department of Law was first time administered in the year 1965. At present, the department runs a five-year law course that is B.A.LL.B. and each year, it takes 120 students to its department. Punjabi University has a dedicated placement cell that assists law students in securing positions in reputable law firms, corporate legal departments, and other legal institutions
