India\u2019s First Dark Sky Park<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Pench Tiger Reserve in Maharashtra has been designated as India’s first Dark Sky Park<\/span><\/strong> and the fifth in Asia, protecting the night sky and preventing light pollution.<\/p>\n

  • The Pench Tiger Reserve (PTR) in Maharashtra is India’s first Dark Sky Park within a tiger reserve for earmarking areas around the park that restrict light pollution for stargazers to access pristine dark skies.<\/li>\n
  • Dark Sky Place certification focuses on lighting policy, dark sky-friendly retrofits, outreach and education, and monitoring the night sky.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Chittorgarh Fort<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

    Context:<\/strong> Chittorgarh Fort, a historic monument and symbol of Rajput resistance, is\u00a0facing threats from limestone mining blasts. The Supreme Court has ordered no blasting within a 5km radius of the fort to preserve its structures.<\/p>\n

    • Built by local Maurya rulers<\/span><\/strong> in the 7th century A.D., the Chittorgarh Fort\u00a0in Rajasthan is\u00a0one of the largest forts in India.<\/li>\n
    • The common belief is that\u00a0Chitrangada Mori, the local Maurya ruler,\u00a0developed the fort originally. Later, the fort was\u00a0captured by the Mewar rulers in 728 CE.<\/li>\n
    • It used to be the\u00a0capital of the Mewar rulers.<\/li>\n
    • It is\u00a0situated on a 180-meter-high hill that rises from the banks of river Berach.<\/li>\n
    • The Fort has been\u00a0witness to several legendary warriors in Indian history, including\u00a0Badal, Gora, Maharana Pratap, Rana Kumbha, Patta, and Jaimal, among others.<\/li>\n
    • It was declared a\u00a0UNESCO World Heritage Site<\/span><\/strong> in 2013.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      • Lidar, which stands for\u00a0Light Detection and Ranging<\/span><\/strong>, is a\u00a0remote sensing method that\u00a0uses light\u00a0in the form of a pulsed laser to measure ranges (variable distances) to the Earth.<\/li>\n
      • These light pulses\u2014combined with other data recorded by the airborne system \u2014\u00a0generate precise, three-dimensional information about the shape of the Earth and its surface characteristics.<\/li>\n
      • A lidar instrument principally\u00a0consists of a laser, a scanner, and a specialized GPS receiver.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        • Airplanes\u00a0and helicopters are the\u00a0most\u00a0commonly used platforms for acquiring lidar data over broad areas<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

            • Recently, the World Health Organization (WHO) has certified Cabo Verde<\/span><\/strong> (also known as Cape Verde) as a malaria-free country.<\/li>\n
            • Cabo Verde has become\u00a0the third country to acquire the status in the global health organisation\u2019s African region.<\/li>\n
            • The country has now joined\u00a0Mauritius and\u00a0Algeria, who were certified in 1973 and 2019, respectively.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

              • It is a life-threatening disease\u00a0caused by parasites that are\u00a0transmitted\u00a0to people through the bites of infected\u00a0female Anopheles mosquitoes.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n
              • There are 5 parasite species that cause malaria in humans, and 2 of these species,\u00a0Plasmodium falciparum and\u00a0Plasmodium vivax<\/span><\/strong>, pose the\u00a0greatest threat.<\/li>\n
              • It is common in tropical areas where it\u2019s hot and humid.<\/li>\n
              • Children under 5 years of age are the most vulnerable group affected by malaria.<\/li>\n
              • Symptoms: Fever and sweating,Chills Headache and muscle aches etc<\/li>\n
              • Treatment:\u00a0It is\u00a0preventable and curable. With early treatment, most people with malaria will make a full recovery.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
