Exercise Sada Tanseeq:<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

In a major boost of ties the militaries of India and Saudi Arabia are conducting their first Joint Military Exercise named as Sada Tanseeq.<\/h4>\n

  • It is the inaugural edition of\u00a0India-Saudi Arabia Joint Military Exercise<\/strong>\u00a0\u2018SADA TANSEEQ\u2019 commenced at Mahajan, Rajasthan.<\/li>\n
  • Aim of the Exercise is to train troops of both sides for Joint Operations in Semi Desert terrain under\u00a0Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter.<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • The Exercise will enable both the sides to share their best practices in the tactics, techniques and procedures of conducting operations in sub-conventional domain.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    The anti-profiteering measures under GST<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

    The Delhi High Court recently upheld the constitutional validity of anti-profiteering provisions in the Goods and Services Tax (GST).<\/p>\n

    What is anti-profiteering under GST?<\/strong><\/h4>\n
      \n
    • Any reduction in the GST\u00a0<\/strong>rate\u00a0or benefit of input tax credit should be passed on to the end consumer<\/strong>\u00a0and not retained by the business. This is the basis of the anti-profiteering provisions under GST.<\/li>\n
    • Under anti-profiteering provisions, it\u2019s illegal for a business to not pass on the benefits of the GST rate benefits to the end consumer, and\u00a0thereby indulging in illegal profiteering.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Who regulates anti-profiteering under the GST?<\/strong><\/h4>\n
        \n
      • The\u00a0Anti-Profiteering Rules, 2017<\/strong>prevents entities from making excessive profits due to the lowering of GST.<\/li>\n
      • The Government has\u00a0created the National Anti-Profiteering Authority (NAA)<\/strong>to\u00a0find and take action\u00a0<\/strong>against taxable registered persons indulging in illegal profiteering.<\/li>\n
      • NAA has the\u00a0power to determine the methodologies.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        Ratle Hydro Electric Project:<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

        The government recently announced diversion of Chenab river water through diversion tunnels to expedite the 850-MW Ratle Hydro Electric Project in Jammu & Kashmir.<\/p>\n

        • It is an\u00a0850 MW run-of-river<\/strong>\u00a0hydroelectric\u00a0<\/strong>power\u00a0project<\/strong>\u00a0being\u00a0built on the Chenab Riverin<\/strong>\u00a0the Kishtwar District of\u00a0Jammu and Kashmir<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
        • The project is being\u00a0developed by Ratle Hydroelectric Power Corporation<\/strong>\u00a0(RHPCL)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          Key Points about Chenab River:<\/strong><\/h4>\n

          • It is a\u00a0major river of India and Pakistan<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
          • Origin<\/strong>: It is formed by the\u00a0confluence of two streams<\/strong>,\u00a0Chandra and Bhaga<\/strong>, at Tandi in the\u00a0upper Himalayas<\/strong>\u00a0in the Lahaul and Spiti Districts of\u00a0Himachal Pradesh<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                          C-bot<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

                          • Goa-based National Institute of Oceanography has launched an autonomous underwater vehicle called C-bot.<\/li>\n
                          • C- bot is a robot with advanced features for increased surveillance over coral reefs.<\/li>\n
                          • It can travel to a depth of 200 metres underwater.<\/li>\n
                          • It will help Indian Navy perform bathymetry studies (mapping of sea floor) to help plot navigation channels.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                            India\u2019s demand for permanent membership of UNSC<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

                            Context:<\/u><\/strong> France reiterated its support for India\u2019s permanent membership of United Nations Security Council (UNSC)<\/p>\n

                            • UNSC was established by UN Charter in 1945<\/li>\n
                            • It is one of the six principal organs<\/em> of UN. These are following<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                                  • It has the primary responsibility for maintaining international peace and security.<\/li>\n

                                  • Under UN Charter, all Member States are obligated to comply with Council decisions.<\/li>\n
