                        Summary of Today’s News<\/h2>\n

                        Less than 3 year old 20 new companies bought poll bonds, it is a punishable offence<\/span><\/h3>\n

                        Despite the prohibition on political contributions by firms under three years old, data reveals that at least 20 newly established firms bought electoral bonds totaling around 103 crore. Five of these firms were less than a year old, seven were one year old, and eight were two years old when they purchased their first bonds. Among them, twelve companies based in Hyderabad collectively donated 37.5 crore, with nearly 75% going to the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and the rest divided among the Telugu Desam Party, the Congress, and the BJP. Eight out of these twelve firms exclusively donated to the BRS.
                        \nThe ban on political contributions by firms within three years of incorporation remains in force under Section 182 of the Companies Act, 2013, despite the amendment to Section 182 by Section 154 of the Finance Act, 2017, which removed the provision capping donations at 7.5% of the company’s average net profit over the previous three financial years.<\/p>\n

                        Kejriwal to remain in Tihar jail as Delhi High Court dismissed plea challenging ED arrest<\/span><\/h3>\n

                        The Delhi High Court dismissed a petition by Arvind Kejriwal, AAP national convener and Delhi Chief Minister, challenging his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case related to the Delhi excise policy. Kejriwal, arrested on March 21 and currently in judicial custody in Tihar jail, had his arrest deemed lawful by Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma. The court stated that the ED presented sufficient evidence showing Kejriwal’s involvement in formulating the excise policy and cited material including hawala dealers’ statements and those of approvers.
                        \nDespite Kejriwal’s challenge to his remand in ED custody and questioning of the timing of his arrest, alleging a violation of constitutional principles, the High Court maintained that his arrest and remand must be assessed based on legal considerations regarding arrests and remands, regardless of election timing.<\/p>\n

                        Peter Higgs, who proposed existence of \u2018God particle\u2019, dies<\/span><\/h3>\n

                        Renowned physicist Peter Higgs, known for proposing the “God particle” concept explaining matter formation post-Big Bang, has passed away at 94, as announced by the University of Edinburgh on Tuesday.
                        \nHiggs, an emeritus professor at the university, died peacefully at home after a brief illness. In 1964, he predicted the existence of the Higgs boson, a groundbreaking discovery confirmed nearly 50 years later at the Large Hadron Collider. His theory revolutionized our understanding of particle mass and contributed significantly to the Standard Model of particle physics.
                        \nIn 2012, the discovery of the Higgs boson was announced by scientists at CERN. Higgs, along with Francois Englert, was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2013 for their independent work on the theory. Edinburgh University praised Higgs as a gifted scientist whose legacy will continue to inspire generations.<\/p>\n

                        Candidates have a right to privacy from voters, rules SC<\/span><\/h3>\n

                        The Supreme Court ruled that election candidates have a right to privacy from voters and are not obligated to disclose every aspect of their personal lives and possessions. Justices Aniruddha Bose and Sanjay Kumar stated that a candidate’s decision to maintain privacy on matters irrelevant to their candidacy does not constitute a corrupt practice under the Representation of People Act, 1951.
                        \nThey clarified that non-disclosure of certain personal details does not amount to a substantial defect under the Act. However, the Court noted that each case would be evaluated individually to determine what constitutes a significant non-disclosure of assets. The judgment was issued in response to a petition by Arunachal Pradesh MLA Karikho Kri, who challenged a Gauhati High Court decision voiding his election for failing to declare three vehicles as assets.
                        \nThe Supreme Court sided with Mr. Kri, agreeing that once sold, vehicles cannot be considered assets, and emphasized voters’ right to essential information for making informed decisions during elections.<\/p>\n
