A Division Bench declared the selection process “null and void” and directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to investigate within three months. The court found the appointments in violation of Articles 14 and 16 of the Constitution, leading to the cancellation of all appointments made in the selection processes.<\/p>\n

The Supreme Court urged the Centre and Karnataka to amicably resolve differences arising in a federal structure. The Union government assured steps to address Karnataka’s drought concerns within a week. Justices emphasized the equality of both Union and State governments. Karnataka sought financial relief of \u20b918,171.44 crore due to drought, citing a total estimated loss of \u20b935,162.05 crore. They emphasized the need for relief in crop loss, livelihood support, drinking water shortage, and cattle care, arguing that the Centre’s denial violated fundamental rights under Articles 14 and 21 of the Constitution.<\/p>\n
