India has strongly advised its nationals to leave Lebanon amid escalating security concerns following Israeli bombing raids. The Indian Embassy in Beirut issued an advisory urging citizens to avoid travel to Lebanon and recommending those still there exercise extreme caution, limit movements, and stay in contact with the embassy. SC dismisses petition to review adverse remarks against Gujarat Govt. in Bilkis Bano judgment.<\/span><\/h3>\n

The Supreme Court on Thursday rejected a petition by the Gujarat Government to review adverse remarks made in a January 8 judgment, which quashed the premature release of 11 men convicted of the gang rape of Bilkis Bano and the murder of her family during the 2002 Gujarat riots. The review, heard by Justices B.V. Nagarathna and Ujjal Bhuyan, found no error in the original decision. Gujarat had objected to some remarks, but the court maintained the remission granted was an “abuse of discretion.”<\/p>\n

The Assam Government, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, will create a roadmap to implement the Justice Biplab Kumar Sharma Committee’s recommendations on Clause 6 of the Assam Accord by October 25. The report, which aims to protect the Assamese cultural identity, has been made public. While the Congress party criticized the move as a “political gimmick,” Sarma clarified that the recommendations apply only to the Brahmaputra Valley, excluding the Barak Valley and Sixth Schedule areas without local consent.<\/p>\n

L69, G4 countries seek urgent reform of UNSC<\/span><\/h3>\n

As the UN approaches its 80th anniversary in 2025, the Group of Four (G4) countries\u2014India, Brazil, Germany, and Japan\u2014have called for urgent reform of the UN Security Council (UNSC). Supported by the L69 and C-10 groups, the G4 met on September 23 to review reform progress. In a joint statement on September 26, Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar emphasized the need for increased representation of developing countries and regions like Africa and Latin America to enhance the UNSC’s credibility.<\/p>\n
