Union Home Minister Amit Shah, in a meeting with Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath, stressed implementing new criminal laws in seven police commissionerates by March 31, with the rest of the state following soon after. Shah emphasized technology use, suggesting multiple forensic mobile vans per district and dividing forensic teams into categories for better resource management. He also highlighted regular monitoring of Zero FIRs and instructed bi-weekly reviews of progress by Adityanath, with weekly reviews by the Chief Secretary and DGP.<\/p>\n

Bharatpol to aid in nabbing fugitive criminals \u2018wherever they hide\u2019: Home Minister.<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the Bharatpol portal, designed to connect Indian police and security agencies with Interpol. Shah highlighted that Bharatpol would help bring fugitives to justice, enabling trials in absentia and simplifying extradition processes. Developed by the CBI, Bharatpol features five modules: Connect, Interpol Notices, References, Broadcast, and Resources. The “Connect” module allows Indian agencies to function as extensions of Interpol\u2019s National Central Bureau, ensuring swift transmission of requests to locate criminals both in India and globally.<\/p>\n

V. Narayanan, spacecraft and rocket propulsion expert, appointed ISRO Chairman.<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

V. Narayanan has been appointed as the new Space Secretary and Chairman of ISRO, taking over from S. Somanath on January 14, 2025. Currently Director of the Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC), Narayanan has been with ISRO since 1984. A rocket and spacecraft propulsion expert, he has contributed to key projects such as the ASLV, PSLV, GSLV Mk-II, GSLV Mk-III, and Chandrayaan missions. As Chairman of the National Expert Committee on Chandrayaan-2, he identified issues in the lander\u2019s hard landing and helped with corrective actions for Chandrayaan-3.<\/p>\n

Data Rules set to be rolled out by mid-2025: Vaishnaw.<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Union Government plans to finalize the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Rules by mid-year, with minor adjustments expected in the final notification. Most stakeholders support the provisions, and large firms are ready for compliance. A two-year implementation period will be provided for data fiduciaries to operationalize the DPDP Act, 2023. Stakeholder comments on the draft rules are due by February 18. The Act ensures the autonomy of the Personal Data Protection Board and will be implemented digitally. The government is also promoting electronics manufacturing.<\/p>\n
