On 25th<\/sup> March, 1957, the Treaty of Rome was signed which established the European Economic Community (EEC) which established a common market between Belgium, France, Italy, Germany, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. The treaty provided for the free movement of goods, people, services and capital. Later, the European Economic Community grew in to the European Union.<\/p>\n

Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana
\n<\/strong>The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has extended the subsidy of Rs. 200 per 14.2 kg LPG cylinder under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana<\/em> (PMUY) for a year. It will benefit 9.6 crores women who will be given subsidy up to 12 refills per year. The need for extending the subsidy comes in the backdrop of rising prices of petroleum products in the international market.<\/p>\n

Membership of banned outfit is crime under UAPA
\n<\/strong>The Hon\u2019ble Supreme Court clarified that any person who is or continues to be a member of a banned organisation, is held to be criminally liable under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1965, for acting against the sovereignty and integrity of India. Any organisation or association is declared as unlawful by the Union Government under Section 3 of the UAPA Act.<\/p>\n

ICMR releases ethical guidelines for AI application in healthcare
\n<\/strong>The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) released the \u2018Ethical Guidelines for Application of Artificial Intelligence in Biomedical Research and Healthcare\u2019<\/em>, to promote ethical standards in AI-based solutions in biomedical research and healthcare delivery. The document was prepared by the Department of Health Research and the ICMR Artificial Intelligence.<\/p>\n

Lok Sabha approves setting up of GST Appellate Tribunal
\n<\/strong>The Finance Bill, 2023, passed by the Lok Sabha, provides for the GST Appellate Tribunal<\/em> to be set up. The principal bench of the GST Appellate Tribunal will be in Delhi, whereas, every States will have benches of the GST Appellate Tribunal. These tribunals will hear appeals related to \u2018place of supply.\u2019<\/em> Also, it will lower the burden on the High Courts and the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n

\u2018Hotel Rwanda\u2019<\/em> hero Rusesabagina to be released
\n<\/strong>Paul Rusesabagina<\/em>, also known as hero of \u2018Hotel Rwanda\u2019<\/em>, is to be released from prison after the Government in Rwanda commuted a 25-year jail sentence against him. He worked as a manager of the Hotel des Mille Collines<\/em> during the Rwandan genocide.<\/p>\n
