On 27th March 2020, North Macedonia became the 30th country to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO.) It is a collective defense treaty between 30 countries established in 1949 and is headquartered in Brussels, Belgium. Jens Stoltenberg is the incumbent Secretary-General of NATO.<\/p>\n

Operation Interflex
\n<\/strong>The United Kingdom has launched Operation Interflex to provide five-month basic training to the new recruits of the Ukrainian Army. The training is provided at 4 locations in the U.K., which are Yorkshire, Wiltshire, Kent, and Northumberland. It is a part of the U.K.’s \u00a32.3 billion military aid to Ukraine to provide military aid to Ukraine during the ongoing Russia-Ukraine crisis.<\/p>\n

Q.R. code for waste collection in Uttarakhand
\n<\/strong>The State Government of Uttarakhand has chosen the Char Dham Yatra route to implement a Q.R. code-based system to streamline the waste collection and reduction of garbage. It will be implemented in collaboration with Recykal, a Hyderabad-based start-up that provides a technological solution for waste disposal. The project was awarded the silver medal in the Digital India Awards under the category of a ‘Government’s digital initiative in collaboration with start-ups.’<\/p>\n

Conferring drastic powers upon the Executive through section 144 is unacceptable.
\n<\/strong>For CJI U.U. Lalit said in the event that section 144 of the Code of the Criminal Procedure, 1973 gives arbitrary powers to the Executive, it is not acceptable in a country governed by the rule of law. This section is issued by the District Magistrate, a Sub-divisional Magistrate, or any other Executive Magistrate specially empowered by the State Government on this behalf in urgent cases of nuisance or apprehended danger. This order was issued 6100 times in the national capital in 2021.<\/p>\n

Making sense of disqualification of a Lok Sabha M.P.
\n<\/strong>Section 8(3) of The Representation of People Act, 1951 provides that if a person is convicted of any offense and sentenced to not less than two years shall be disqualified from the date of conviction, but Article 103(3)(a) of the Constitution of India provides that if a person has become subject to any disqualification, then his seat shall thereupon become vacant. As per Article 103 of the Constitution of India, the decision regarding the disqualification of a member of Parliament shall be taken by the President.<\/p>\n
