Pierre Curie was a French physicist who was born on May 15, 1859, in Paris. He was a pioneer in crystallography, magnetism, piezoelectricity, and radioactivity. In 1903, he received the Nobel Prize in Physics with his wife, Marie Curie, and Henri Becquerel, for discovery of radium and polonium.<\/p>\n

Supreme Court
\n<\/strong>The Hon\u2019ble Supreme Court of India has held that orders of courts in bail cases should neither be too long and elaborate nor it should come too late as both violate the constitutional mandate of personal liberty. The court held that matters pertaining to liberty of citizens should be decided expeditiously by the courts.<\/p>\n

Smart City Mission
\n<\/strong>The Smart City Mission was launched in 2015 to develop sustainable and inclusive cities which promotes ease of living by providing quality infrastructure, clean and sustainable environment through application of data-driven applications. It aims to develop 100 smart cities in India. Currently, 22 cities across India have been selected under the Smart City Mission.<\/p>\n

Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF)
\n<\/strong>The Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) was launched in 2021 by the United States of America to strengthen economic partnership among participating countries to enhance resilience, sustainability, inclusiveness, economic growth, fairness, and competitiveness in the Indo-Pacific region. The four pillars of IPEF are: – supply chain resilience; Clean energy, decarbonisation and infrastructure; Taxation and Anti-corruption; Fair and resilient trade. Australia, Brunei, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, United States, and Vietnam are 13 members of IPEF.<\/p>\n

Praveen Sood<\/em><\/strong> appointed as the new CBI Director
\n<\/strong>Praveen Sood<\/em>, the incumbent DGP of Karnataka, was appointed as the new CBI Director by the three-member panel comprising of the Prime Minister, the Chief Justice of India and the Leader of the Opposition. The two-year fixed tenure of the incumbent CBI Director, Subodh Kumar Jaiswal, will come to an end on 25th<\/sup> May, 2023.<\/p>\n
