Today in History (May 16th, 1975)<\/strong><\/h1>\n

On 16th May 1975, Tabei Junko<\/em> of Japan, accompanied by Ang Tsering of Nepal, became the first woman in the world to reach the summit of Mount Everest. On 28th June 1992, she ascended the Puncak Jaya<\/em> in Indonesia to become the first woman to complete the Seven Summits, including the highest peak in every continent.<\/p>\n

Vishakha Guidelines
\n<\/strong>The Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in Vishaka & Ors. vs. The State of Rajasthan & Ors, 1997<\/em>, laid down guidelines to protect women against sexual harassment at workplaces. These guidelines are popularly known as the Vishakha<\/em> guidelines. The court stated that every instance of sexual harassment is a violation of “Fundamental Rights”<\/em> under Articles 14, 15, and 21 of the Constitution of India and amounts to a breach of the “Right to Freedom”<\/em> under Article 19 (1)(g).<\/p>\n

Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX)
\n<\/strong>Innovations for Defence Excellence, a flagship mission of the Union Ministry of Defence, reached a milestone by signing the 250th contract with Inspecity to develop a gas-based compact micro propulsion system. It is the first contract under Mission DefSpace, which aims to create innovative solutions for armed forces in the space domain.<\/p>\n

Wholesale Price Index
\n<\/strong>The annual rate of inflation based on all India Wholesale Price Index (WPI) is (-) 0.92% (deflation) for April 2023 against 1.34% recorded in March 2023. The decline in the inflation rate in April 2023 is primarily contributed by the fall in prices of basic metals, food products, mineral oils, textiles, non-food articles, chemical & chemical products, rubber & plastic products, and paper & paper products.<\/p>\n

One Stop Centres for Zero Waste.
\n<\/strong>The Union Government is set to launch ‘Reduce-Recycle-Reuse’ Centres for facilitating citizens, institutions, and commercial enterprises to deposit old clothes, shoes, books, toys, and plastics that can be reused and recycled. These RRR centers will be established as a part of the nationwide campaign ‘Meri LiFE, Mera Swachh Shehar’ under the Swach Bharat Mission- Urban 2.0.<\/p>\n
