Mahua expelled from LS, Opposition MPs walk out

  • Trinamool Congress member Mahua Moitra was expelled from the Lok Sabha, based on cash for ­query allegations.
  • Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi had moved a resolution, which said her continuance as an MP was “untenable” and her conduct was unbecoming of an MP
  • Moitra was accused of taking bribes from Dubai­ based businessman Darshan Hiranandani in return for asking in questions in Parliament

Delhi’s unemployment rate higher than national average

  • The unemployment rate (UR) in Delhi was higher than the national average for 2021­22, according to a Delhi government report.
  • It stated that the city’s population is likely to reach 2.65 crore by 2036
  • There was improvement in sex ratio of Delhi, however the sex ratio is below the national average
  • Delhi’s sex ratio was 868 as per the 2011 Census, while the national average was 943.
  • It is higher than the national average of 4.4% for men and 3.3% for women.

Judges should not preach: SC on Calcutta HC’s advice to girls 

  • The Supreme Court asked the judges not to to preach or express personal views even in exceptional cases, regarding the remarks in a Calcutta High Court judgment advising adolescent girls to “control sexual urges”.
  • “Prima facie, we are of the view that the judges are not expected to express personal views or preach,”

Private Bill seeks power for Assemblies to remove Governors

  • The Bill, moved by CPI (M) MP V. Sivadasan, sought to provide powers to the State Assemblies to remove Governors.
  • The Bill sought amendments to the Constitution so that the Governor is elected by the members of an electoral college

consisting of 

  • Legislative Assemblies of the States and
  • elected members of the gram Panchayats,
  • Municipalities and corporations of the States.
  • The election of the Governor shall be held in accordance with the system of proportional representation by means of the single transferable vote and the voting at such election shall be by secret ballot,” the Bill said.

The first-ever Indian Art, Architecture & Design Biennale (IAADB)

IAADB, scheduled from December 9 to 15, 2023, will host theme-based exhibitions each day, The week’s themes include:

  • Day 1: Pravesh – Rite of Passage, Day 2: Bagh e Bahar, Day 3: Sampravah, Day 4: Sthapatya, Day 5: Vismaya, Day 6: Deshaj Bharat Design, Day 7: Samatva.
