Today in History (Apr 21st, 1526)

The First Battle of Panipat was fought on April 21, 1526, between the forces of the Mughal emperor Babur and the Sultan of Delhi, Ibrahim Lodi. The battle resulted in a decisive victory for Babur, which marked the beginning of the Mughal Empire in India. The battle was the first major conflict in India where firearms were extensively used.

ISRO to carry out in-orbit scientific experiments using spent PS4.
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is set to launch the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV)- C55 mission to carry out in-orbit scientific experiments using the spent PS4, which is the fourth and final stage of PSLV. The mission will also launch Singapore’s TeLEOS-2 as a primary satellite and Lumelite-4 as a co-passenger satellite.

Government plans 100 ‘eat right’ food stalls across country.
The Union Health Ministry, in collaboration with the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, has asked States and Union Territories to develop 100 food streets in 100 districts across the country. This project encourages safe and healthy practices to reduce food-borne illnesses and improve health outcomes. Financial assistance of Rs. 1 crore per food street/district will be allocated to States and Union Territories.

Exercise INIOCHOS-23.
The Indian Air Force will be participating in Exercise INIOCHOS-23, to be held at the Andravida Air Base in Greece. The IAF will be participating with four Su-30 MKI and two C-17 aircraft. The exercise aims to enhance international cooperation, synergy, and interoperability among the participating Air Forces.

SpaceX’s uncrewed Starship explodes shortly after lift-off.
Starship, the most powerful rocket ever built by SpaceX, exploded during its first flight launched from Starbase, the SpaceX spaceport in Boca Chica, Texas. The rocket has been designed to send astronauts to the Moon, Mars, and beyond. NASA has picked the Starship spacecraft to ferry astronauts to the Moon under the Artemis-III mission.

National Civil Service Day
The National Civil Service Day is observed in India on April 21 every year to commemorate to honour the occasion when Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel addressed the Administrative Services Officers’ probationers in 1947. It aims to celebrate civil servants’ importance and role in the country’s development.
